Health NewsHello! I hope your summer is going well. Health Ministries is getting ready to begin again in September. One of our first offerings will be a Qigong class led by our very own Donna Bell. Qigong is the practice of working with your "Qi" (pronounced chee), or "Life Force." We will meet in the Sanctuary on Wednesday afternoons for six weeks, from September 24 through October 29, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. The cost is $40 per person. Sign-ups will begin this month in Fellowship Hall, after worship. As always, here's to your health! Jamie SchweizerFaith Community Nurse
"Heartstrings" Doing Handwork to Open the HeartIf you like to knit, crochet, do needlepoint, cross-stitch or any quiet handwork, you are invited to participate in "Heartstrings" beginning in February. And if you don't do handwork, you're still welcome to come; we have an easy activity for you. Facilitated by Margaret Gainer, the group combines several reflective activities. One afternoon a week, we will gather in the sacred space of the Sanctuary to do the work of our hands while opening peaceful space in our hearts. We'll begin with a simple Qi Gong routine and brief guided instruction in mindfulness meditation. Then we'll practice using the skills of mindfulness during a period of companionable silence, doing our own handwork as a way of awakening to personal experience moment by moment. Following this quiet period, we'll listen or speak during a time of reflective conversation based on scripture, poetry or other spiritual passages. Please feel free to join us for any or all of the seven sessions. The Sanctuary will be open from about 3:10 p.m., so come early to chat and share handwork ideas. If you have any questions, please contact Margaret Gainer. First Congregational Church's Health Ministry program was profiled in the April 2006 edition of the Campbell Reporter and the Willow Glen Resident. Click here to read the article. |
