Mission 1

For 11 days in November (the first through the eleventh) the entire United Church of Christ will make good on its "That they may all be one" motto with a coordinated mission campaign. The goal is to gather more than one million food and household items for local food banks to feed the hungry and confront food related injustice. Our Missions Board would like to challenge First Congregational Church of San Jose to participate by collecting 1,111 canned foods by November 6. Canned foods collected will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank. The collection will begin on Sunday, October 23rd. A collection bin marked MISSION 1 will be provided in the breezeway between the Church and Fellowship Hall where can place your canned food gifts. All gifts are appreciated, although the following are especially requested:

Meals in a can (stew, chili, soup)
Low-sugar cereals
Tuna and canned meat
100% fruit juices in single serving boxes
Peanut butter
Canned fruit packed in juice
Canned foods with pop-top lids
Canned vegetables (low salt)

On November 6th following church, we will have a blessing of all canned foods donated and line the perimeter of the labyrinth with them as an expression of our dedication to this campaign. Success of the national campaign will be celebrated in local UCC Churches on Sunday, November 13. Thank you for your gifts.
