Youth Mission Sunday, August 17

Join us as we welcome home our youth, young adults, and Rev. Jack from their recent Mission Trip to Arizona, where they worked with Humane Borders to learn about current migrant issues. There will be a special presentation during worship. After the service, refreshments will be served in Fellowship Hall.

August Movie Night

What could be better on a warm summer night than watching a movie, eating popcorn, and hanging out with great people? And doing it all for free! Come join us on Friday, August 15, at 8:00 p.m. to watch Disney-Pixar's Ratatouille. We hope to see you all there!

Annual All-Church Picnic, Sunday, Sept. 7, at 11:30 a.m.

Calling all cool cats and hip chicks! Come join us for the grooviest party this side of Woodstock! It's time for FCC's annual all-church picnic, and this year's theme is the 60s, so put on your bellbottoms, stick a flower in your hair, and come join the fun. There will be free food, games and prizes, a photo booth, bingo, a cupcake-walk, and great fellowship.

Welcome Waters

Every year, it is our tradition to have people bring back a small quantity of water from their summer travels for our Homecoming Sunday in the fall. Water from all over the world is poured together to remind us of God's grace, our common journey, and the welcome that is ours as we all return from our travels and vacations. Don't forget to collect your Welcome Waters this summer!

New Seminary Intern

In September, we will welcome a new seminary intern, Patricia Wood. She is a member of the Skyland United Church of Christ and a student at Pacific School of Religion. Patricia will be with us about 15 hours per week through May, mostly on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. She brings years of experience as a Christian Educator along with enthusiasm for community organization and alternative worship. As a "teaching parish" we continue to help shape future church leaders while enjoying the gifts they bring to our ministry. We are grateful to those who will serve as her Teaching Parish Committee: Rebecca Hendricks, Maurice Stevenson, Elizabeth Cox, and Brian Link.

Open & Affirming Anniversary Weekend, September 27 and 28

The official anniversary of FCCSJ's vote to become Open and Affirming is coming up at the end of September. In honor of the anniversary, we are planning an O&A Anniversary Celebration Weekend for September 27 and 28. As part of the celebration, we are compiling an O&A anniversary booklet, with statements from the congregation with your thoughts, memories, and experiences of the O&A process, and the 10 subsequent years of commitment to being Open and Affirming in word and deed. (Thanks Carol Borck, for being the first submission!)

If you would like to have your thoughts and comments included in the anniversary booklet, please submit them (by e-mail or hard copy, 2-3 paragraphs) to Susan Walsh, church office manager, by September 15.
